Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
We’ve all heard of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, a timeless holiday classic. One North Dakota town has had that tale take over the entire community every year for decades and is now going into its 25th year — and it just keeps getting better. It’s because of this it is known as the Christmas Capitol of North Dakota, and regardless if you’ve been every time or have yet to experience it, you don’t want to miss out on this special event:
Every year Garrison, North Dakota becomes the Christmas capital of the state. This year will be its 25th year doing so, and even after all this time it just keeps getting better!
The entire down takes part in the Dickens Village Festival, transforming this prairie small town into the streets of London featured in Charles Dickens' timeless classic, A Christmas Carol. It will be held from November 23-25, November 30 to December 1, and December 7-8.
You can take a charming carriage ride through town or even hop on the Queen Elizabus, a double-decker bus just like the ones in London. How cool is that?
Lots of vendors will be set up in town to buy warm treats and do a bit of holiday shopping. There is also a quilt show, wine and cheese tour, heritage side trip, and souvenir shop.
You'll definitely want to try and visit on November 25th. That day includes an English High Tea, fruitcake toss, waffle and french toast brunch, and an appearance of live reindeer and Santa.
Yes, you read that right: the Dickens Village Festival even has a fruitcake toss! See how far you can chuck that classic holiday treat and win prizes. Everything about this event is all about Christmas fun, and for their 25th year, they are planning on making it the best. Don't miss it!
The Dickens Village Festival will be taking place all throughout Garrison, North Dakota on the given dates. For a full schedule of events and more information about the festival, click here.
