Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
There is a town in North Dakota that already has a charming main street year round, but when Christmastime returns each year it becomes positively enchanting. When you visit it during its special holiday festival you’ll be treated to the perfect small town Christmas feel. Check it out:
The town of Mayville (and the neighboring town of Portland) is already a lovely town to visit any time of the year, but you definitely do not want to miss it around Christmastime.
Every year, Mayville and Portland (or MayPort) host a WinterFest that transforms Main Street into a holiday wonderland. This year it will be held from December 2-9, 2018.
Along with plenty of lights and decorations to adorn the street, the festival includes a holiday parade. Plenty of colorful floats will go through, and you're likely to spot a certain jolly fellow among them! Grab a hayride in a different part of town before or after for the perfect winter day.
The festival also includes street dances, get-togethers, food, and fun for the entire family — snow or shine. You can also take a Holiday Lights Tour through the town to see all the dazzling displays.
There is even an entire holiday shopping extravaganza — the WinterFest Bazaar. More than 30 vendors will have booths up with plenty to choose from for your holiday shopping. Local businesses will also be stocked up with plenty of adorable Christmas items. What more could you ask for from a small town Main Street? It's full of holiday cheer!
