These unusual yet totally tasty treats started in a family-owned chocolate shop that is now located right in the Peace Garden State. You can still visit this shop and get some of them for yourself, plus many other delicious, handcrafted sweets. Here’s where the magic happened:
Carol Widman's Candy Co. is a family-owned chocolate shop that's been around since 1885. They have two North Dakota locations, one founded in 1949 in Grand Forks and the other in Fargo, as well a shop in Crookston Minnesota. It's at these shops that they hand-make their famous treat.
This store is any chocolate lover's dream. With walls lined with shelves upon shelves of chocolate in all varieties, shapes, and sizes, you'll be in sweets paradise.
These handcrafted candies are made in-house daily. After four generations of the Widman family perfecting their craft, you can imagine these are nothing short of amazing.
One of the things they are most known for is creating the chocolate-covered potato chip, or "chipper." If you love the salty and sweet combination of chips and chocolate, then this is the perfect treat for you.
They come in all sorts of flavors, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and even peanut butter. You can even buy them by the pound if you're really craving them!
Beyond the chippers, Widman's has tons of other chocolates and candies, all made with techniques and recipes passed down since the founding of the company.
