“Chippers” are a snack tradition invented in and beloved by snackers in North Dakota. The chocolate-covered potato chips balance the palate between sweet and salty cravings for a unique flavor experience. Though the snack has become a favorite throughout the state, the best place to get chippers is where they were invented: Carol Widman’s Candy Co.
The Widman family has been making and selling candy for four generations, with a legacy that dates to 1885. The family currently runs two stores in North Dakota - one in Fargo and one in Grand Forks - as well as a location in Minnesota.
Though the stores sell a number of confections, they're best known for the original "Chippers." Nationally recognized Red River potato chips are covered with creamy chocolate in your choice of light, dark, or white. They've begun expanding to flavors such as butterscotch and strawberry to spice the snack up even further.
Though the Chippers are the hallmark, Widman's has a lot of other confections to offer. They create masterful gift baskets and specialty items for holidays and special occasions.
Mike M. from Arden Hills, Minnesota raved about his trip to Widman's, saying "This place is what you want if you're looking for the best in candy and chocolate! Whether it's a large or small order, they will take care of all your candy needs! Don't leave without grabbing some chippers!"
The candy business has changed with the times, but some staples are so good, they never go out of style. One of those classics is the Chippers from Carol Widman’s Candy Co. Visit the store’s Facebook page to learn more.
