When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Garrison is a nice, quiet little town in McLean County on the shores of beautiful Lake Sakakawea. It was named for Garrison Creek and, to this day, it’s a cute little destination if you like peace and quiet (who doesn’t?). Should you decide to visit, you’ll need somewhere to stay, and we found the perfect place! This adorable little bed and breakfast in North Dakota is excellent for a weekend stay, or maybe something longer. Come see why the Cabernet Inn is one of the best places to stay in North Dakota.
The inn is a stunning five-bedroom home originally built in 1917.
It's had many lives since then, from being a family home to becoming a convent to... well, everything else, and we kind of feel like this varied (but never dark!) history is part of what makes it such a fun place to stay.
From the moment you walk in, you'll be surrounded by old-world charm and a vintage comfort you won't find anywhere else.
Since there are only five rooms, it's a small, quiet, intimate experience that we recommend for all travelers, whether you're looking to have a solo self-care weekend or if you're looking for a romantic getaway with your person.

The bedrooms are warm and cozy, and you won't want to get out of bed.
While you're in Garrison, be sure to check out the golf course, tennis courts, and public parks. There's also the amazing Lake Sakakawea nearby, which is a great day trip destination in North Dakota in and of itself.
In the warmer months, one can expect festivals and various events in Garrison and on the lake, and in autumn, the changing color of the leaves surrounding the inn is beyond breathtaking.
In the winter, Garrison hosts the annual Dickens Village Festival - if you'd like to attend, you might want to book your room at the Cabernet well in advance; it does book up fast.
The Cabernet Inn is easily one of the coziest stays in North Dakota - no matter what time of year it is.
