There is something so comforting about cozying up in a library, especially one that offers book lovers a true escape from reality. In North Dakota, we have one state library that is as beautiful as it is rewarding. The North Dakota State Library in Bismarck is something out of a dream in architecture, but that’s just one aspect of this wonderful book enthusiast’s paradise.
The North Dakota State Library in Bismarck, ND, is a spectacular library that is government operated.
The building itself is in a classic style of architecture with a limestone exterior, often used for federal-era type buildings designed and constructed in this time period.
But it’s not just the exterior that is a real dream. The interior, too, features large main doors of ornamental bronze, a corridor and grand stairway made of imported Italian travertine, and Terrazzo marble floors.
Book lovers will find a haven of peace and quiet in terms of public offerings here. While it is a library on capital grounds, it still maintains an active public library, as well.
Also, during your visit, take some time to explore the grounds. There are statues, historical markers, and plaques that represent the beauty and history that North Dakota is known for.
