Leah moved to North Dakota when she was 12 years old and has traveled from the Red River Valley to the badlands and many places in between. She loves small-town life and currently enjoys living on a small farm in the ND prairie. She's always had a passion for writing and has participated in novel writing challenges such as NaNoWriMo multiple times. Her favorite part about this job is recognizing small businesses that deserve a boost and seeing the positive affect her articles can have on their traffic, especially in rural areas that might have otherwise gone overlooked.
As the snow falls and the radio stations start to play those timeless Christmas tunes, whether you are ready for it or not, the holiday season is here. And a great way to embrace all those good Christmas feelings and age-old traditions is by visiting this special North Dakota village. Every year for one day it transforms into a Christmas wonderland, and you don’t want to miss it.
On December 1, 2018, North Dakota's Bonanzaville will be hosting their annual holiday celebration, Christmas on the Prairie.
Bonanzaville is already an awesome place to visit for its historic buildings and museums, but it transforms into a Christmas wonderland once each year with lights, food, music, and more.
Everything - from the old buildings to historic train engines - is decked out in lights. Open fires will be going so you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores.
All throughout the day there are horse-drawn carriage rides, blacksmith demonstrations, and lots of activities. Weather permitting, there will likely be an ice skating rink and sledding hill open for all ages.
The main goal of the event is to bring back old, nostalgic Christmas traditions that will make you think of the simpler times. You can make a Christmas card on an old printing press, for instance. There will also be carolers singing beautiful holiday songs throughout.
This event is also a great way to stuff yourself with holiday treats. They use old methods like baking cookies in a wood-burning stove to stay true to their historic theme. They even have a hot chocolate bar where you can create the perfect hot chocolate to keep you warm on what will likely be a chilly day.
Whether you go for the unique historic attraction, the holiday cheer, delicious treats, or simply to enjoy the special day, you definitely don't want to miss Christmas on the Prairie at Bonanzaville.
Christmas on the Prairie will be held at Bonanzaville on December 1, 2018. It will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM and the entry cost is just $6 for adults, $3 for children. Bonanzaville is located at 1351 Main Ave. W, West Fargo, ND 58078. For more information on the event, click here.
What are your favorite holiday traditions? It’s not truly Christmas in North Dakota until you do these 10 things.
