The gorgeous Des Lacs Lakes, upper, middle, and lower, are protected as a national wildlife refuge. Come springtime, the prairie hills surrounding the lakes become lush with grasses and wildflowers. It's truly a sight to see. The refuge has trails and an auto tour route so you can enjoy it in multiple ways. Plus, the lovely town of Kenmare is located right next to Middle Des Lacs Lake so you can stop by and see what it has to offer.
Located in the scenic Sheyenne River Valley, the Fort Ransom State Park is a great nature-lovers spring getaway. The forested hills have stunning open meadows that just fill up with flowers in the spring and summer. There are quite a few trails, campgrounds, and even a historic farmstead to explore.

Located just outside of Mohall, North Dakota, the Prairie Bistro is a unique restaurant experience that you can only enjoy in the spring and summer. The majestic views of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park are best seen at spots like the Painted Canyon Overlook in the South Unit just off of I-94. The colorful layers of the badlands look even prettier when filled with green plants.
