After such a dry summer last year, North Dakota’s fall foliage wasn’t as bright as it could be. This year hasn’t been nearly as dry as 2017, so you can expect to see a lot more beautiful and brighter colors gracing the trees across the prairie. Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming fall season in the Peace Garden State for 2018:
2017 was a summer full of drought conditions that resulted in a fall that wasn't quite as colorful as it could have been. Luckily, 2018 was closer to average in rainfall for most of the ND plains.
After these scattered few late summer storms, North Dakota is set to start seeing the leaves begin to change colors in mid to late September this year.
As we move into October, more and more of the trees in the state's river valleys and few forests will begin to turn into an absolutely beautiful array of color.
Peak fall foliage colors will be in mid-October. The best times are predicted to be from October 15th to October 22nd. Places like the Pembina Gorge, shown below, will be absolutely full of vibrancy.
You'll definitely want to take advantage of the stunning scenery while the season is in full swing. Places like Lake Metigoshe in the Turtle Mountains and Fort Ransom State Park in the Sheyenne River Valley are perfect destinations.
Even in the most tree-less parts of the prairie you can find patches of bright colors around lakes and in the tree rows. It should be quite a lovely year for autumn!
