The best and most unique eateries are always worth a road trip. As much of a destination as it is a restaurant, The Yellow Deli in Hiddenite, North Carolina is every bit as pleasing to the palate as it is to the soul. This new Yellow Deli location opened in 2016 and has charmed visitors and locals alike with its creative and eccentric atmosphere, friendly service, and consistently delightful food.
Hiddenite was once a town but is now but a community on the outskirts of Hickory, Lenoir, and Morganton. Aside from the Hiddenite mines found here, you won't find much to do in this small place — but a visit to The Yellow Deli is a must.
So much so, that people are willing to go far, far out of their way to dine (and shop) at this rural establishment.
Most visitors rave about the extraordinary craftsmanship that went into the design. Tables are carved into charming nooks in the wall and the restaurant features multiple levels — some contain just one table.
Even the waiting area features seating made from barrel staves.
Aside from the decor, the food at The Yellow Deli is beyond expectations. A whimsical four-page menu will make your mouth water as you peruse the all-day breakfast items as well as the soups, salads, create-your-own sandwiches, and more.
As mentioned, breakfast is served all day, so no matter what time you arrive, you're in for a tasty meal. The Yogart Parfait (seen here) is a huge favorite and features lots of fresh seasonal fruit with granola sprinkles, coconut, and honey served over, under, and around a heaping portion of yogurt.
The deli menu contains both hot and cold sandwiches. Choose from a mouthwatering Reuben, a veggie burger, buffalo chicken, and roast beef. All are tucked neatly into fresh bread from the bakery.
Or build your own sandwich by choosing your meat, cheese, and bread. You really can't go wrong with the flexible menu options at The Yellow Deli.
Bring a hearty appetite so you'll have room for a soup. Whether you opt for the soup of the day or a bowl of chili, it'll be fresh and hot.
One of the best things about The Yellow Deli (besides everything) ? It's open 24 hours a day from Sunday at noon through Friday at 3 p.m. (closed on Saturday).
The next time you're in the mood for a foodie road trip, head to The Yellow Deli in Hiddenite. It's centrally located to Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Boone, and even Asheville.
