Usually hikes to the top of a mountain in North Carolina are embarked upon in order to get high above the world to see for tens of (or even a hundred) miles. But this trail is different. While you can see for miles, the long range view is not what you’ll remember. Take a look:

Wiseman's View is located near Linville Falls, North Carolina in the gut of the Pisgah National Forest and several miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And while the hike may be easy, the trek out to the parking lot for Wiseman's View is a bit of a challenge on a dirt road that requires a high-clearance vehicle. (More details on that are below.)

But the payoff for enduring the troubling road is a front row seat for some of the best views available of the interior of Linville Gorge.

Once you reach the parking lot, the entrance to the paved trail is clearly marked. The trail is also wheelchair accessible.

The easiest walkable trail in Linville Gorge is quite a challenge to reach. You’ll travel over a very rough gravel and dirt road that should only be attempted in a high-clearance vehicle with four wheel drive. There are steep grades and some segments of the road have wide and deep gutters made by the runoff of heavy rain waters. This dirt road is four miles long and takes approximately 20-25 minutes to reach the parking lot once you turn onto the dirt road. Wiseman’s View Overlook is located on Old NC Highway 105 near Linville Falls. This link to a Google Map provides the exact location of the parking lot.
