Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
Dan Nicholas Park in Salisbury is the ultimate family destination in North Carolina. Once you go, you’ll wonder what took you so long. This complex experience wraps wildlife, education, rides, and recreation all into one loving bundle of fun. And you don’t have to leave when it’s over. Stay all night long at the campground with multiple ways of doing so. With the exception of camping, the cost for most of the attractions is 50 cents to $1. See why this county park, just a few miles from I-85, has grown tremendously over the years.
A playground goes on and on for days at this charming, 425-acre park.
Get some refreshments at the concession stand, offering up daily nachos, popcorn, and corn dogs, with specials on the weekends, such as pizza and warm, flavored pretzels.
And make some new acquaintances by meeting this sweet snake and his friends the turtles, the alligators, and other creatures at Rowan Wild's Nature Center.
