Few things in life are as uplifting as a field of blooming sunflowers… except, perhaps, a field of u-pick sunflowers! Here in North Carolina, there are a few key places you can spot a full field of these sun-worshiping blooms. But there’s one, in particular, where you’ll be enchanted beyond words. You can pop in to just admire the view, take photographs, and best of all: pick your own to take home!
At Raised in a Barn Farm, located in Chocowinity, the u-pick sunflower season will begin in several weeks. You can keep an eye on the exact date (it hasn't been released yet) by following their Facebook page here.
At the moment, the massive fields of sunflowers are in their growing phase, awaiting the moment when the lanky green stalks shoot upward and sprout their sunny yellow blooms.
Most people don't realize there are 70 species of sunflowers. Moreover, all but three are native to North America. What can we say? The sunflowers love us as much as we love them!

During the U-pick season at Raised in a Barn Farm (probably late August/early September), you'll pay a nominal admission to the farm (last year it was $5) and then you can wander as long as you want.
The enchanting sunflower fields are always ideal spots for taking some keepsake photos to hold you over until the next sunflower harvest season. Such a beautiful sight!
Pick some blooms and stay a while to enjoy the peaceful nature of the farm. A concession stand is usually brimming with snacks and there are tables underneath the shady arena found on the farm.
That has yet to be announced, however, last year the u-pick flowers were $1 per stalk or 12 for $10.
Raised in a Barn Farm is also a sponsor (as well as the location) for the annual NC Sunflower Festival (more on that coming in August), so gear up for more than one road trip to this sunny sunflower paradise later this summer.
For example, it's only 36 miles north of New Bern, 20 miles southeast of Greenville, 95 miles south of Camden, and a mere 112 miles southeast of Raleigh.
The u-pick sunflower season is only weeks away at Raised in a Barn Farm. For more u-pick details, refer to the official Facebook page here and be sure to “follow/see posts first” to make sure you get the latest updates on u-pick information as soon as they’re posted!
