Did you know that you don’t have to travel all the way to the United Kingdom to visit Stonehenge? We’ve got our own version hiding right here in North Carolina that many people don’t know about. Read on for the details and then enter the coordinates on your GPS. This is a fascinating spot to explore, or to simply relax at.
Travel back in time when visiting North Carolina's very own Stonehenge, hiding in Chapel Hill off of Hillsborough Road.
The exact coordinates are (35.940695, -79.109408).
You may be able to spot this hidden gem from the road if you keep your eyes peeled.
Park and then walk up to this installation, known to some as Hartleyhenge. It's named after its builder, architect John Hartley
Each piece of the structure is positioned to form a giant spiral.
There are four larger stones, positioned at North, East, South, and West.
Be sure to walk up to each of the four larger stones to read the attached poems.
Take in the inspiration of the words while enjoying the quiet serenity of the surroundings.
Other than hearing the occasional car pass by, North Carolina's very own Stonehenge remains peaceful. Many seek out this unique place for meditation. Of course, this gem also makes for great photo ops.
This place may not be nearly as ancient or shrouded in mystery like the real Stonehenge, but it is a gem worth finding for yourself.
