Ever been to Sparta, North Carolina? This unassuming little town (population, about 1,700) garnered some regional attention in the heat of the August summer in 2020. The most significant earthquake to hit North Carolina in 104 years struck Sparta at 8:07 a.m. on August 9th. With a magnitude of 5.1, it was felt in much of the Tar Heel State and the entire southeast. It was the second strongest quake in North Carolina history. Earthquakes aside, there is another reason to draw attention to tiny Sparta: the much-loved actor, musician, comedian, and writer, Zach Galifianakis, who is a native of Wilkesboro, North Carolina, owns a farm in here! And if that’s not enough to turn your head in the direction of this small town, the Mexican food will.
