Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve Park in Raleigh is a little-known scenic spot for fall foliage in North Carolina. The 157 lovely acres of land along Falls Lake is named after Dr. Annie Louise Wilkerson, who left behind important achievements in her 53 years in medicine. The park is a dynamic space, offering exhibits and displays; electric car-charging stations; free equipment to use, such as kites and binoculars; native plant gardens; restrooms and water fountains; and hiking trails. And speaking of trails, let’s take a peek at autumn on some of the pretty hikes in and around this preserve.
Three small loop trails have been created on the property, along with the Mountains-to-Sea Connector.
This links the preserve’s trails with the Mountain-to-Sea Trail that follows the south shore of Falls Lake and opens us up to other trails in the area.
The picturesque Ravenridge Mountains to Sea Trail is a 6.8-mile out-and-back trail near Raleigh.
You'll find the amount of shade here is perfect and the elevation reasonable enough to keep a good pace with plenty of places to stop and look at nature.

And for a longer hike, choose the Falls Dam to Raven Ridge Road.
The 6.2-mile loop trail is a beautiful hike, crossing the creeks and streams. The walk is moderately challenging to easy with some nice rolling hills.

And while you’re in Raleigh, venture over to the year-round indoor farmers market for some fresh produce, plants, and other specialty items.
