Tucked away amidst coastal landscape you can witness beautiful salt marshes, thickets of forest and unique wildlife - even a Venus Fly Trap. Take the sections of the 100-mile Saltwater Trail that start near New Bern.

This small but quaint mountain town offers plenty of charm - boutique hotels, amazing restaurants, river views and also the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad where you can hop on board to explore uncharted areas of Western NC.

Located off a long country road in Bostic, between Rutherfordton and Forest City, Washburn's General Store is the longest-run family owned business in North Carolina. Inside you'll find every knick knack and unique item you've ever imagined. You'll also see Ed Washburn, now owner, sitting and reading a newspaper; he'll be happy to have a chat and show you around the store.
You'll find this stunning double waterfall between Maggie Valley and Cherokee. It can be accessed off Hwy 19, where you'll see a sign and a small parking area. A short walk takes you to an observation deck - or journey down to the falls for an up close look.

Located in Deep Creek, this lesser-known waterfall offers a stunning footbridge to get up close and personal. It can be accessed from the Juney Whank loop trail at the Deep Creek Entrance. The 90-ft. fall is named after Mr. Junaluska "Juney" Whank, who's rumored to be buried somewhere in the Deep Creek area, particularly near the fall.

Located in Lewisville, the one and only tunnel of trees in North Carolina can be found on Conrad Rd. Perfect anytime of year, you can't beat the country scenery - the tunnel of trees lasts a little over a fourth of a mile but the entire road offers beautiful views.
In Asheboro, it's hard to believe such history and scenic beauty can be found down a small path. Built in 1911 and rebuilt 1998 after a flood nearly washed it away, the bridge crosses over the Little River. There are trails and pathways and even spots for a scenic picnic.
