Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
Enjoy the coziness of the season in the North Carolina Christmas town of Hendersonville during the annual Home for the Holidays celebration. Folks here have planned more than 50 holiday events throughout November and December sure to bring yuletide cheer, from carriage rides on Main Street and holiday shows at Flat Rock Playhouse, to the thoughtful displays of cheer from local vendors. Everywhere you look in this Blueridge town is surely a delight, straight out of a Norman Rockwell Painting. Here are some scenes to expect in the coming days.
Beginning on Black Friday, Nov. 25, the historic courthouse plaza accommodates the lighting of the town’s impressive 30-foot Christmas tree to the accompaniment of festive, live music.
Return to the square to see Santa again on Friday, Dec. 2, as part of the Old-Fashioned Christmas celebration hosted by downtown merchants. And if you missed the carriage rides, here's another chance.
From Nov. 25 through Dec. 22, this holiday revue leaves you merry and bright.
And don't miss the Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3, starting at 6:00 p.m. with the theme "Christmas Lights," stretching from 5 Points to the southern end of Main Street at the Caswell Street intersection.
Other events include the Holiday Tour of Inns & Cookie Caper, the 16th annual Gingerbread Cookie Contest at Narnia Studios, the Peppermint Bear Scavenger Hunt, and a holiday performance by the Carolina Concert Choir.
Plus, it wouldn't be Christmas without the Historic Johnson Farm tours offered Dec. 5-16.
