Have you ever encountered a dessert almost too pretty to eat? More than a sweet treat but a work of art, a culinary creation deserving of a picture or two. Of course though, when it looks that good, you naturally want to eat it too. While plenty of desserts are known for their above-average aesthetics and fanciful displays, one dessert that’s remained relatively the same is the milkshake. That is…until you try one from Ninety’s.
Delectable milkshakes almost too pretty to eat? You'll find that here at Ninety's. Part extravagant part delicious, their Instagram worthy desserts create lines out the door. Ninety's has long been a University establishment, originally serving sandwiches alongside elaborate sweet treats. Recently, the store unveiled a new look and interior makeover June 17 after Darith Ngear, with the help of his two cousins, took over the shop that his mom had run for 12 years.
Ngar's mom long made Ninety's a place known for iconic desserts and a hearty sandwich. Last year, the macaron ice cream sandwiches catapulted Ninety's to near-viral fame with the shop barely able to keep them in stock.
It's a common problem people come here with no idea just what to get.
A crowd pleaser is the "bottom of the cereal bowl," a Fruity Pebbles milkshake elaborately decorated in the rainbow-colored treat. While many ice cream establishments simply mix the ingredients in the milkshake and call it a day, Ninety's takes time to make every dessert not only taste amazing but look amazing.
The mix of elaborate toppings paired with a delectable base has customers coming back time and time again. If you're more on the traditional side, there's the strawberry shortcake milkshake that tastes like the beloved summer treat.
There also the Yum-ee bun, a Chinese sweet bun stuffed with ice cream and topped with childhood favorites like Lucky Charms marshmallows or Fruity Pebbles.
My suggestion? Come with a big group so you can try a bit of everything! Don't forget to take a picture of your dessert before digging in.
While the exterior is somewhat simple, this north Charlotte staple is hiding some of the most inventive and unique desserts in North Carolina.
Ninety’s is such a cool place! It’s more than cute desserts; it’s risen to be a beloved establishment. Have you been here here?
