The entire North Carolina coastline is a wonderful place to explore. From beach towns to resort-like islands, you’re sure to find an atmosphere that suits your desires. But when you want to get away to a beach that’s entirely undeveloped, it can be difficult to find such a place along our coast.
Masonboro Island is located immediately south of Wrightsville Beach. You’ll need a boat to access this undeveloped island. It’s open year-round, but has no facilities and no drinking water supply. Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash. Primitive camping for no more than 48 hours is perfectly legal, just make sure your tent is above the high-tide line before you go to sleep.
