Trekking on foot up to breathtaking heights to enjoy incredible views is one of our favorite ways to spend the day; however, there are days when it’s nice to be able to get to those same scenic views without devoting so much time (and energy) to the adventure. Jump Off Rock, in Laurel Park, North Carolina, doles out astounding views from its scenic granite overlook at 3,100 feet above sea level – and better yet? You can drive all the way up to the lookout point!
Located on Jumpoff Mountain, the deliciously beautiful Jump Off Rock park is a delightful place to gawk at the view, wander the trails, and have a picnic.
All of the fun is only steps away from the parking area, which is a mere five miles to the west of downtown Hendersonville.
Serious views (you can see three states) coupled with serious legends make Jump Off Rock intriguing on many fronts. Legend has it an Indian maiden and her boyfriend, an Indian warrior, spent many hours upon this rock gazing at the same views we see today.
But one day, the warrior went off to battle and never returned. The maiden, distraught and heartbroken, flung herself off of Jump Off Rock. Her lifeless body was discovered below.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, you're sure to love the three trails at the rock. Each poses a little different challenge, including an occasional steep drop off (so keep an especially keen eye on the kiddos).
The Tar Heel State is saturated with beautiful views — each worthy of a look. Have you been to Jump Off Rock yet?
