A summer in North Carolina without a day of splashing and cooling off in the cool waters of a mountain waterfall just wouldn’t be summer, as far as we’re concerned. The Tar Heel State is home to some pretty amazing waterfall swimming holes. One of them, Hooker Falls, is found right in the heart of the DuPont State Recreational Forest at the end of a trail that’s less than a half-mile long.
Located a mere 15 miles southwest of Hendersonville, Hooker Falls is a popular destination during the warm months of summer in North Carolina.
A smooth rock and soil beach runs along the trail side of the waterfall and is an ideal place to hunker down for the day while the kiddos enjoy the spoils of the fun found at the base of the falls and in the rather large plunge pool.
Fortunately, the water here never gets too deep, but if you have little ones that need assistance, then water wings or a flotation device may be in order.
Just remember to bring along a garbage bag so you can take everything with you when you leave. Let’s leave this place in pristine condition for generations to come!
