There aren’t too many natural caves in the Tar Heel State that are open to the public but there’s a very cool grotto in North Carolina found along an easy waterfall trail in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard.

The trail begins right on U.S. 276 about 17 miles northwest of Brevard

Although the trail traverses a mountain forest, its path includes an elevation change of only about 75 feet each way on the 0.7-mile hike.

Since it's located on a waterfall-laden highway, it's also highly trafficked in warmer seasons so prepare to share the trail and be sure to keep the four-legged family members on a leash.
