When it comes to heaven on Earth, one may not first think of gardening to take them over the threshold. But at one arboretum in North Carolina, gardening is absolutely heaven. If you have yet to discover the JC Raulston Arboretum at North Carolina State University, then add this slice of paradise to your bucket list the next time you’re nearby.
Established in 1976 by horticulturalist JC Raulston, the arboretum spans 10 beautiful acres and can easily take a couple of hours to appreciate every square inch.
There are several individual gardens and displays, each adding up to an impressive presentation of more than 6,700 species, or taxa. In fact, the arboretum has some of the comprehensive collections of species in the world.
There's also a rooftop garden with views of the other gardens, a lath house, the White Garden, the Winter Garden, Conifer Garden, Monocot Garden, and so much more.
Guided tours are offered for groups of 10 or more. The tours are $5.00 per person. Visit JC Raulston Arboretum on the web to learn more, including hours of operation and upcoming special events. Who knew an arboretum in North Carolina would feel so much like heaven on Earth?
