Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
Grovewood Village is a lesser-known place in North Carolina packed with art and history in a most beautiful space. The 11-acre site is home to the Biltmore Industries Homespun Museum, Grovewood Gallery, working artist studios, the Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum, and Eldr restaurant. And the best part — Grovewood Village has no admission fees with free onsite parking. The artist studios are open for tours on the second Saturday of the month from May – October, and the restaurant has its own hours. Let’s take a look at this unforgettable adventure.
The interesting site once housed the woodworking and weaving operations of Biltmore Industries, co-founded by Edith Vanderbilt.
Founded by Asheville native Harry Blomberg, his prized collection of vintage and antique automobiles is showcased, including a rare 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham.
Coffee, lunch, and dinner are served Wednesday–Friday, or order brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Learn more on Eldr Restaurant’s Facebook page.
We love the chef's focus on sourcing the best possible ingredients, wine, and craft cocktails.
Start with this pretty vegetarian dish, Little Gem Lettuce, served with melted camembert, black garlic molasses, pistachio cream, fried shallots, and fresh herbs.
