When most people think of Hot Springs, North Carolina, a hardware store in the town’s historic district probably falls somewhere behind the town’s namesake springs in terms of what comes to mind first.

And it's easy to see why, really. Hot Springs, population about 575, is a stunning locale in the mountains of western North Carolina.

The town is situated along the confluence of Spring Creek and the French Broad River at the point where the Appalachian Trail intersects at just the right vantage point to see it all on display, as seen here.
North Carolina's only known hot springs is found in the tiny mountain town... a spring first known as 'Warm Springs,' prior to the town becoming a resort.

Today, the tiny town of Hot Springs is dependent upon tourism. Folks come from all over to bathe in the natural springs found in the town.
Outside of the springs and the Hot Springs Resort and Spa, folks traveling here are likely to hit the river for some rafting, hit a few of the nearby trails, like Max Patch, and dine out in the few restaurants that really cater to the out-of-towners.
