If you’ve never been to, or even heard of China Grove, North Carolina, then maybe it’s time for a road trip. The small North Carolina suburban town is found approximate 30 miles northeast of Charlotte and just off of interstate 85. Home to myriad restaurants, a few museums, and more, Chine Grove is also the birthplace of the famous author, Gary Chapman, who penned “The Five Languages of Love.” But China Grove is known for yet another thing: Gary’s BBQ.
You'll find Gary's BBQ at 620 US-29, China Grove, NC 28023.
Step inside and take a walk down memory lane with nostalgic decor. Nearly every inch of wall space is covered with vintage signage... and not the rusty signs... these are primo!
Or the food! Gary's specializes in vinegar-based BBQ sauce but also offers a variety of sauces if you prefer other flavors. And the plates are always piled high!
The hush puppies are some of the best you'll ever have. Fresh from the fryer and still steaming when you get them. Buy just one (if you can), or get a half or full dozen!
For anyone in the party that doesn't want BBQ, Gary's also offers a variety of sandwiches, including hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, a BLT, and more. See the full menu here.
