If chasing waterfalls is a passion you’re serious about, then a hike deep into the Nantahala National Forest to view Flat Creek Falls near Tuckasegee is in order. Rated as moderate by AllTrails, this hike clocks in at 5.8 miles round trip. Most people should be able to finish it in 4-5 hours. But you just may want to put a buffer in there so you can linger a while at the base of this 200 foot spectacle in the middle of the forest. It’s positively stunning.

In all, Flat Creek Falls drops 200 feet into the forest floor with an initial 70-foot drop over a rock ledge. Then, the water quickly shifts course to cascade another 130 feet down the side of the mountain.

Getting here, though, will require a bit of stamina. And you might want to bring along the walking sticks as there is an elevation change of 1,053 feet on the trail.

The hike begins with a creek crossing, which may or may not have stepping stones. It then is an old logging road for a short while before it turns into a narrow path the rest of the distance.
Eventually, the trails drops down to Flat Creek and a bit upstream is where you'll find Flat Creek Falls.
