When it comes to family entertainment, you can’t beat the free Movies Under the Stars at The Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria in North Carolina’s highest town: Beech Mountain. While some may recognize Beech Mountain for their ski resort, the mountain is actually booming in the summer months as visitors and those who call Beech Mountain their home away from home flock to the cooler temperatures that naturally occur at a mile above sea level.
The Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria has been creating lasting memories for locals and visitors to the mountain alike for more than 25 years from its perch at the crest of the highway as you enter the tiny mountain town.
Inside the large, yellow restaurant you'll find a pizzeria, a bakery, and some of the best desserts in all of Avery County (try the Cannoli!). An arcade in the rear of the building and a full bar up front round out the full service menu and attractions found under this one roof. In the winter, folks can practically ski right from the slopes to (almost) the front door. And in the summer, The Famous Brick Oven Pizzeria heats up with some amazingly fun outdoor activities.

After a day of hiking the many scenic trails of the Emerald Outback on Beech Mountain, grab a pizza (they're delicious) and watch a flick to unwind and relax.

Grab a table inside and devour your pizza while you wait for the movie to start.
Or take you pizza outside to one of the outdoor tables or benches. You can also bring your own cozy stadium seat or blanket and get all set up for the movie. While you're at it, good luck in choosing that first beverage from the wall of beer from around the world. With so many choices, you'll have to drink more than one. Or, head to the margarita bar and indulge.
Which means, if you get here a little on the early side you'll have time for a rousing game of mini-golf ($7.95 per player) on the only course in the county that has its own yellow brick road.
On Fridays through August 31, head to Beech early in the day for the Summer Family Field Days. Enjoy bounce houses for the kids, a huge field for gathering, live music, (see the music lineup here.), and great food. And on Saturdays beginning at 6 p.m., enjoy a free street dance on July 13, 27, and August 10 ahead of the Movie Under the Stars!
