Located on the central-southern border, Rockingham and Hamlet are two of the bigger cities within the county, and that's where you'll find the majority of these attractions.
There's a lot to love about Hinson Lake. The 200+ acre park boasts nearly three miles of hiking trails, ample fishing opportunities, tons of wildlife viewing, and several scenic spots perfect for a picnic. There’s also an 18-hole disc golf course, perfect for honing your skills and enjoying a friendly competition on a beautiful day.

For lodging, you can’t go wrong with a stay at The Ellerbe Springs Inn. The 42-acre property has a stocked five-acre lake (catch and release), private walking trails, and so much more.

You're bound to need a coffee break, and Axe to Grind is just the spot. The buffet-style eatery is your go-to spot for all your Southern staples. The Seaboard Station Restaurant is known for its fried chicken, with many folks claiming it's the best fried chicken in the state! Seaboard Station is open for lunch from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Sunday-Friday. It's a narrow window, so be sure to arrive early!

Since 1779, when Richmond County was formed, it has provided residents with a wonderful community to call home. Here are a few fun things to do in Richmond County for the next time you come to visit:
Feel the need for speed at Rockingham Dragway, Rockingham, NC: The Rock has been a main attraction for Richmond County residents since 1970. It is a quarter-mile drag strip where you can see a whole lot of muscle racing down the track at blistering speeds. Every month of the year you'll find weekend events to feel the rush of fast cars and record-setting speed.
Catch a train at Hamlet Station, Hamlet, NC: This train station and museum is a wonderful part of North Carolina history. It was built in 1901 and served as the depot and division headquarters for Seaboard Airline. It is still a functioning railroad for Amtrak to this day. It is also a popular train museum with a very photogenic Victorian Queen Anne-style station that brings visitors just to admire its historical beauty.
Hitchcock Creek Paddle Trail, Hitchcock Creek, NC: If you love to dip your kayak paddle into cool crisp water now and then, you'll want to head to the Hitchcock Creek Blue Trail and Greenway.
