In a world that’s currently unpredictable there is good news. In times of trouble and crisis, North Carolinians have demonstrated time and again how easy it is to step up and help our community when it’s in need. To that end, some distilleries in the Tar Heel State have begun producing hand sanitizer – in addition to, or instead of, spirits. What an incredible way to give back to the community!

Just a little over a month ago we were moving about our normal lives and today, we're worried about spreading a virus known for causing some people to die. Life as we have known it has changed drastically in a matter of weeks.

Some local businesses, however, are adjusting to the change with new models or products aimed at making life more secure and a bit easier. End of Days Distillery in Wilmington, for example, suspended vodka production recently in favor of bottling a different concoction: hand sanitizer.

For weeks, it's been nearly impossible for many North Carolinians to locate a bottle of hand sanitizer, however big or small, on the shelves of local stores. But this week, End of Days Distillery began making it available — for free — four ounces at a time.

Crafted from a 70-percent alcohol solution and a few other key ingredients, the hand sanitizer recently won the unofficial seal of approval from the FDA and is up to standards for keeping germs at bay when used according to CDC guidelines, which also recommend using hand sanitizers that are at least 60 percent alcohol.

The distillery is making the hand sanitizer available on a limited basis through Saturday of this week between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at their Castle Street tasting room (address below).
