Combining a foodie road trip with a visit to a charming and historic town in the Tar Heel State is an adventure too fun to pass up. A visit to Edenton, a scenic small town located on the north side of the Albemarle Sound in the Inner Banks region, is a lovely way to spend a day. Take a look:

For starters, Edenton's waterfront is about as jaw-dropping as it gets. This sleepy community was a hidden secret for the longest time, but it's recently made the list of top places for a day-cation (a.k.a. road trip) and you'll want to visit, too!

The historic district includes more than 300 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the famed Roanoke Light, an exact replica of an earlier version of the light in Edenton. Elsewhere, the streets are lined with historic homes and quaint parks perfect for strolling and getting a feel for the charm of this small coastal town.

Aside from being home to the oldest house in North Carolina (the Lane House), the historic district is also comprised of shops, galleries, and eateries. Emilio's General Store and Take Away is an ideal spot to stop for a bite to eat.
