When seeking a leisurely hike with impressive wildlife, choose the Lake Johnson East Loop Trail, an easy trail with lots of birds in North Carolina. Located in Lake Johnson Park in Raleigh, this lovely walk is essential for bringing some tranquility to our day. What could be more recuperative than a wooded forest with a peaceful lake, and a plentiful variety of beautiful birds?

One of the best features of the Lake Johnson Trail is the variety it offers for bird-watching.

It includes a 3.5-mile paved greenway loop, a 1.9-mile unpaved loop, and another 1 mile of out-and-backs to scenic lake overlooks. The paved portion leads us along the lake, through the woods, and across the dam.
The trail begins at the Eastern end of the lake near the dam where a gaggle of geese is out stretching its legs.

Follow the signs for the scenic overlook, and you'll see the trailhead on the right.
