In comparison with many other states, North Carolina would seem to have a little more than our fair share of ghostly occurrences. There’s one place, in particular, that’s a thriving restaurant, inn, and winery with many first-hand accounts of actual sightings, events, and even objects moving that can only be explained as something paranormal, even ghostly.

The Country Squire Restaurant, Inn, and Winery is located approximately halfway between Raleigh and Wilmington, only a short drive from Interstate 40 near Warsaw.

The series of buildings cobbled together to create this lovely destination date from the early 1800s to more modern construction. Guests need merely step through the doors to feel transported into another place and time.

The Country Squire is comprised of a series of gathering places. There's a big meeting hall (Mead Hall) that overlooks a courtyard, a dining area called The Pantry, a wedding venue capable of holding 160 guests (the Jester's Court), a walkway to exit out to the Winery, and a Tavern.

While many of the first-hand encounters with the ghosts and tales of other odd occurrences at The Country Squire take place in many of the public rooms (as opposed to the rooms in the inn), it's the Pantry and the Tavern that are ideal for sipping wine and mingling with the ghosts of The Country Squire.

Over the years, there has been a litany of eyewitness reports of otherworldly happenings here. In fact, the list goes on and on to the point that, quite frankly, it's even unnerving just to put it all down here. So here are the highlights: Disembodied voices, objects moving while they were being watched, darts that got plucked off the dart board, one-by-one, and then magically picked up off the floor and put back into the dartboard, doors that open and then close on their own, light bulbs that somehow become unscrewed with people next to the fixture, and oh-so much more. The ghostly tales from here are hair-raising accounts.
To be honest, when visiting The Country Squire, a little wine sounds like a perfect way to socialize with the ghosts that have been reported over the years at this establishment.

The spirits in the bottle may have a calming effect for any shenanigans of the spirits not found in the bottle.
One thing we know for sure: we could find no reports, whatsoever, that any of the ghosts that roam these halls have ill intentions. They're all friendly and at least one is a bit of a prankster. So go ahead, head to Warsaw to sip wine and mingle with the ghosts!
