This Zoo In North Carolina Has Animals That You May Have Never Seen In Person Before

Kids of all ages (including those over 18!) love a good zoo visit. We’re fortunate in North Carolina to have a variety of zoos and animal encounters right here in our own back yard. But there’s one zoo that specializes in species from around the globe – and you’ll want to see these awesome creatures in person! The Conservators Center, located in Burlington, is home to more than 80 animals. What’s more: this isn’t your ordinary zoo… if you want to see the animals, you can take a public tour and learn about the history of each one. Take a peek below at some of the awesome creatures found at this unique zoological park.

Found in most all polar habitats, the Arctic Fox is a bit of a chameleon. The animal's thick white fur actually takes on a different hue in warmer seasons, helping it blend into the environment in the snow — and out.

Bin-what? It's easier just to use this creature's nickname: the Bearcat. And come to think of it; this cute and cuddly little guy looks like a cross between a bear and a cat! (Two of our favorite animals!) The Binturong is native to Southeast Asia and loves to eat figs.

Speaking of unusual cats, you'll find plenty of them at the Conservators Center. Seen here, the Serval is found in Africa and has some rather large ears — perfect for hearing predators and prey from a long distance.

Also known as the Australian Coyote, but not limited to that continent. The Conservators Center has two resident dingoes and they're a friendly pair!

These irresistible little creatures are from Africa and are known for their large ear-to-body ratio. All of the creatures at the Conservators Center are part of the family and even have names. These two are named Wendy and Tut.

Found today throughout the New Guinea Highlands, this particularly vocal dog is quite common in that region. The center is home to as many as six of these beautiful singing dogs — just enough for a full choir!

There are currently three tigers at the Conservators Center, but Arthur is the only white tiger. In all fairness, he does has some faint grey stripes. Arthur is easily one of the biggest show-offs and friendliest of residents.

The public tours at the Conservators Center are fully guided and offer a great deal of up close adventure. Tours are available by reservation only and feature a variety of different tour themes. The prices range from $14 to $26, depending upon the tour you select.
