Cliffs of the Neuse State Park has three cabins perfect to host families. Whether it’s a weekend affair with just you and the kids or a multi-family get-together, everyone will make incredible memories.
The name Cliffs of the Neuse comes from the 90-foot high Neuse River overlook. The cliffs were formed by a shift in the nearby fault lines and millions of years of erosion by the river!
Think of it like cutting with the grain into the earth and then polishing the many layers revealed within to form a wild, multi-colored cliff face.
The Park is 1,050 acres on lands appropriated from the Tuscarora and Saponi Indians. The river site of the Park was once ceremonial ground and a gathering place for hunting expeditions.
It is home to Cypress trees and Galax as well as some of the westernmost examples of Spanish Moss.

A large beach area exists on the 11-acre lake with canoe rentals and floating platforms. The kids will love canoeing, and adults can set up camp chairs to watch from the beach.
You can check out a video walkthrough of the cabin here. They all have electricity. Showers are communal, but kept warm and centrally located.
If you’re curious about local history, the nearby town of Whitehall features a number of notable spots and markers, including Civil War battle sites. In the early 20th century, the town was known for its mineral water cures.
If that didn’t do the trick, the waters were also used in corn whiskey stills. Locals touted that one of the two would cure whatever ailed.
This area is particularly beautiful in the fall and refreshing in the summer. The campsites are super reasonably priced, but do tend to book up early. So work out your family availability and make reservations early!
