Once known as the towering and elegant Mayfair Manor, now the Dunhill Hotel is a notoriously haunted hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. And if walls could talk, imagine what secrets these rooms must inhabit. To add weight to the folklore, a renovation in 1988 uncovered an elderly man’s bones during the cleaning of an elevator shaft located near the boiler room. It seems nobody knows who the man was or what happened to his remains, but the staff lovingly refers to the ghost as “Dusty.”

Originally owned by Doctors J. P. Matheson and C. N. Peeler, Dunhill Hotel was built in 1929 as Mayfair Manor Hotel Apartments the same year as The Wall Street Crash.

The 10-story Classical Revival-style building, designed by Louis Asbury Sr. opened in November 1929 with 100 rooms. And it seems the hauntings aren't just coming from Dusty as during the Great Depression, the 10 years after the building's construction, its 10 stories sadly provided some filled with despair enough height for suicides.
While the Dunhill has been renovated several times to its modern glory with 60 rooms, and renamed, sometimes delightful remnants of the past come strolling by.
