If you live in Charlotte, you know our food game is awesome. With many new restaurants coming to town, there are always tons of choices to eat whatever you are in the mood for. Even amid all these options, sometimes we crave a good old fashioned sandwich and luckily, Charlotte has great spots for those too. These 6 places are the best places in Charlotte to get an amazing sandwich every time you go, so remember these places during your lunch hour and enjoy!
1. The Common Market
The Common Market is a local Charlotte favorite and unlike any other sandwich shop you have ever seen before. The deli at Common Market is just a small part of the charm. Common Market is a casual hang out spot that runs like a modern general store. They sell anything from beer, wine, vintage candy, stickers, playing cards, greeting cards, toys, and more. The often have live music, and their patio is always full.
Serving up some of the best sandwiches in Charlotte, the Common Market is a popular lunch time spot. They offer vegan options as well as traditional sandwiches and introduce patrons to more creative sandwich choices if they are interested. One of our favorites is the Dilworth Scandal, which has turkey, brown sugar bacon, caramelized onion, chipotle aioli, and provolone cheese served on warm ciabatta bread. Common Market has three locations, so if you're craving an awesome sandwich you should be able to find one near you.

2. The Bodega in NoDa
The Bodega in NoDa's claim to fame is that has been serving the neighborhood lunch since 2012. A mom & pop shop owned by a husband and wife team, this sandwich shop is a household name in NoDa and one of the most popular lunch spots. In addition to sandwiches, the Bodega sells beer, wine, and homemade salads like pimento cheese, pasta salad and potato salad.
The Italian Stallion is a house favorite and is made with prosciutto, finocchiona, coppa, fresh mozzarella, basil, and Peppadew relish on a baguette. If you have really worked up an appetite, you must try the G-Man's G-Wich. London broil, caramelized onions, melted pepper Colby Jack cheese, and jalapeno bacon make up this sandwich and is topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle mayo and balsamic reduction. This sandwich is a must try just like the Bodega.

3. The Laurel Market
The Laurel Market is another neighborhood deli located in the Myers Park neighborhood. The Laurel Market has been serving up breakfast and lunch to neighbors since 1991 and it has definitely become a Myers Park staple. On Saturday and Sunday mornings you can barely step into the small market because the line is out the door for breakfast sandwiches. Somewhere between 10 a.m. and noon, breakfast rolls over to lunch and the deli is still swarmed with customers.
A very simple menu of specialty sandwiches is scrawled on a chalkboard sign that hangs above the deli. If you don't see what you like there, the ladies behind the counter will happily make you a custom creation of your own. One of our favorites is the Number 10, which has black pepper ham, artichoke spread, Havarti cheese, cucumber, and sprouts. Next time you're in the neighborhood, you must stop by Laurel Market for breakfast or lunch. We promise you'll love it!

4. Roots Cafe
Although Roots Cafe only opened in Southend this summer, they are no strangers to the Charlotte food scene. Owner Craig Barbour is the genius behind the Roots Food Truck, which used to be quite popular around town. Taking his talents to Southend, Roots Cafe is already making a name for itself as a great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or to just sit and have coffee or wine with friends. All handcrafted meals feature fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the flavor combinations are outstanding.
Sandwiches on the menu include a pastrami on rye with pickles and house mustard, a BLTA bacon, lettuce tomato and avocado, and a fruit forward ham sandwich with brie, melted onion, Dijon, orange and honey served on fresh brioche. In addition to sandwiches, Roots offers grain bowls, fresh sides, wine and beer, and a friendly atmosphere. If you haven't been to Roots yet, make sure you stop in soon.

5. Cafe Monte French Bakery and Bistro
Although Cafe Monte serves much more than sandwiches, they had to be on this list because the sandwiches they do serve are phenomenal. A traditional French bakery and bistro, Cafe Monte offers a lunch menu full of French soups, salads, sandwiches, and flatbreads. The Croque Madame is a traditional French favorite with melted Gruyere cheese, grilled ham, and a creamy Bearnaise-like white sauce all served in between two slices of grilled french bread with a fried egg resting on top. The Croque Monsieur is the exact same sandwich, but without the egg and both will make you feel like you are sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Paris.
One of our favorites is the Smoked Salmon Croissant with thick slices of smoked salmon, cucumber, and a dill creme fraiche on a flaky, buttery croissant. The flavors are perfect for breakfast or lunch and will leave you pleasantly satisfied. If you like your sandwiches with a little European flair, head out to Cafe Monte for brunch or lunch and tell us what you think was best!
