There is a fairly new Christmas tradition afoot in the Queen City and although this is only the fourth season, the Charlotte Christmas Market becomes more and more magical with each passing year. The large, open-air holiday market brings the best of a European Christmas Market to Uptown Charlotte and opens this year the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
You'll find it this year at the corner of 4th and Tryon in Charlotte's Uptown.
The location is perfect for getting into a festive holiday spirit while perusing the many vendor booths, enjoying live musical performances, and indulging in German foods.
Be sure to arrive hungry. The many food options here are over the top and you'll want a taste. Start with a delicious brat topped with kraut and then move on to dessert.
Lebkuchen gingerbread are a staple in markets all across Germany. Devour a smaller decorated cookie while you're here and purchase the giant heart to bring home for later. (They also make wonderful gifts!)
The market is open beginning at 11 a.m. every day, except Monday, as well as every night, except Sunday. (Closing times vary by day, so see this link.)
If there's a nip in the air when you arrive, grab a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy strolling through the market to see what wonderful gift items are found in the more than 30 vendor booths.
You'll find treasured gifts that range from alpaca scarves, local honey, holiday wreathes, Amish jams and jellies, and high-end Christmas ornaments and decor.
Pick up some authentic German items as well! Scores of ornaments, gnomes, hand-blown glass ornaments, Moravian stars, and more await — all imported from European countries.
