Whether you do a full cannonball from one of the cliffs, splay all limbs in every direction as you hop from one of the high diving platforms, or you choose to enter the water at the zero entry beach, a visit to The Quarry at North Carolina’s Carrigan Farms will make your summer epic. (We all deserve an epic summer… )
Few things can take a sweltering hot summer day and turn it into an enjoyable adventure in the sun quite like finding a watering hole with dozens of ways to enter the water.
At the Quarry at Carrigan Farms located in Mooresville just outside of Charlotte, the whole family will have a blast in the spring-fed waters of this enormous blue lagoon.
Numerous points of entry into the quarry make the day an ever-changing adventure. For the little ones, a zero entry point beach is an easily managed way to introduce the smallest members of the brood to this gigantic natural swimming pool.
Rest assured everyone is safe, too. Carrigan Farms requires anyone who hasn't previously passed their stringent swimming test to wear a life jacket. A wide array of sizes are available for use.
The quarry is available for public swim dates that are posted on the website. You can see a list of current open swim dates, as well as get the scoop on how Covid-19 has changed any procedures at this summertime oasis, at this link.
The spring-fed quarry was mined well into the mid twentieth century, when it began to fill with spring water. It's still spring fed, and also (after a rainfall) has a beautiful waterfall on the far side.
Luckily for much of North Carolina, Carrigan Farms' Quarry is centrally located and easily reachable by way of a day trip to Mooresville, just off Interstate 77 north of Charlotte.
