The main street leading through the town rolls all the way up the towering mountain. Roan Mountain isn't the tallest mountain in North Carolina but at 6,286 feet, it's close. It's also not wholly located in the Tar Heel State; the TN/NC state line rolls right over the mountain.
Over on the outskirts of the town proper, Bonnie and Clyde's drive-in has been dishing up delicious American fare since many of the town's people can remember.
