Dive much? Whether you do or don’t won’t make much difference at Blue Stone Dive Resort in Thomasville, North Carolina. Blue Stone not only has a 19 acre former quarry perfect for scuba diving, but also gives diving instruction so even a novice can enjoy the facility. This epic scuba diving resort even has a dive lodge for out-of-town visitors. Let’s take a look:
Opened in 1993, Blue Stone Dive Resort is located in a quarry that operated until 1961.
The quarry is fed by a natural spring and few sediments run into the man-made lake so visibility is usually very good. The deepest part of the quarry is 100 feet, which is perfect for exploring the goodies found at the bottom of the lake, including at least one airplane, a vintage car, boats, and more.
While you must have a diver certification to dive on your own within the quarry, snorkeling is also permitted and no certs are required to simply snorkel in the crystal clear water.
Not certified yet? No problem. You can still get in the lake with your dive instructor during one of the many training sessions as you work toward your certification.
The cavernous dive center positioned on the lake's edge has everything you'll need for a dive. It also has showers for cleaning up a bit after a day of diving in the deep, cold waters of the spring-fed lake so you can drive home feeling refreshed.
If you need to rent equipment, or have tanks filled, then you can do that here as well. If you're sans any of the gear because you're traveling (or for whatever reason), you can rent the complete dive package that includes a wetsuit, BC, regulator, tank, and weight system for a mere $50.
When you’re ready to check it out, Blue Stone Dive Resort is located approximately an hour northeast of Charlotte and 30 minutes south of Winston-Salem in Thomasville. Call ahead for hours and to reserve a spot: (336)474-0674. Learn more from the official website and follow the Facebook page here.
