Billy Graham, the man known affectionately as America’s pastor, was born in 1918 and raised on a farm outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. William Franklin Graham, Jr. died in February 2018 at the age of 99. But his crusade lives on at the Billy Graham Library, located about four miles from the farm on which he grew up.

Located on a sprawling 20 acres of land south of Uptown Charlotte, the Billy Graham Library is worthy of a visit.

The large complex includes the Library itself, a large 40,000-square-foot structure where tours take place daily Monday through Saturday.

Each tour takes approximately 90 minutes and begins and ends with multimedia presentations that bookend the remaining exhibits in the various rooms throughout the Library.
Some might think the library is merely a memorial to Graham, who devoted his life to the teachings of the gospel.

However, the Library is more of a journey toward Jesus Christ than it is a memorial to Graham. Many of those who visit claim to feel a divine presence on the property.

It has been moved from the dairy farm where Graham grew up to the Library complex and includes family photos and heirlooms from Graham's childhood. The home was built in 1927.

As you can see from these Billy Graham Library photos, there are a variety of types of displays and exhibits to enjoy. Personally, when I visited with my family, one of my favorites was of these guns turned in by converted gang members, a powerful testimony of the change that took place in their hearts and lives as a result of the ministry of the Reverend Billy Graham.

Another memorable moment happened in the room devoted to the memory of Billy Graham's wife, Ruth Bell Graham. An audio was playing in which she recounted having been asked if she had ever considered divorcing her husband, whose schedule was full of travel and ministry activities, to which she joked, "Divorce? No. Murder? Yes!"

The Billy Graham Library is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed on Sundays.) Admission is absolutely free.

The best place to live in North Carolina really depends on what type of community you’re looking for:

  • Charlotte – Of course, this is the place to be if you’re interested in the busy, larger city atmosphere and all that comes with living in the 15th most populous city in America.
