Although North Carolina is a southern state, it’s still seen its fair share of winter storms throughout the years. In the year 2000, the Great Blizzard, a category 3 nor’easter, dumped over 24 inches of snow around the state in 24 hours causing power outages and dangerous conditions around the state. In March 1993, a superstorm blizzard dumped over two feet of snow and caused extensive damage and hundreds of deaths. It has been referred to as the “storm of the century.”
