North Carolina has achieved the epitome of celebrity status and you (and your taste buds) will love the reason. As of July 2018, and according to some super complicated algorithms over at TripAdvisor.com, we officially own the bragging rights to the best darn burger in the entire country – and you’re going to want to sink your teeth into one of these legendary creations. Take a look, and then start planning your visit!
Al's Burger Shack is everything you would want in a burger joint...
The staff is super friendly, the place is certainly a quirky little shack that is extremely inviting, and the food is... well, see for yourself below.

The burgers are all made-to-order with meat that's sourced from a North Carolina farm where the cattle are pasture-fed. (If you've never tried grass-fed beef, then you've been missing out.)
Al's Burger Shack has their "regular menu" which you'll find posted to the wall above the ordering counter, but they also have special creations that are out-of-this-world good.
For instance, that a look at the Pub Shack Burger.
It all starts with grass-fed beef; then, add lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle, mayo, mustard, ketchup, Gruyere, bacon... and, wah-lah! We have a burger so beautiful you'll need to take at least a half dozen burger selfies to remember it.
Don't worry at all if you arrive at Al's and there is a line out the door.
They're known for quick and friendly service. So you can go ahead and grab your order right away from the pick up window, and then find a table to devour your flavorful creation.
Al's may serve the best burgers in America, but they also put together some impressive hot dogs. Check out this one that's called the Getting Over The Hump With J Dawg. It starts with grilled smoked sausage, then add slaw, fresh jalapeños, and spicy sweet mustard. Oh yeah, that'll get you over any hump in the middle of the week.
Or, you can show 'em who's boss with the Call The Law Dog. It's a beef dog, topped with dirty slaw, chili, jalapeño ranch, and finished off with Fritos! (I'll take one of those, please!)
No kidding, when people know they're heading to Al's in Chapel Hill, they actually save up room in their tummy all day so they'll be able to fit more of these delicious creations into their body.
Who wants to try the above Julianna Burger? It's a burger, topped with habanero jack cheese, guacamole, sprouts, balsamic aioli, lettuce, tomato, red onion. And it looks a little like a fancy salad stuffed on top of the burger. Yum!
