What does it take, really, to make your mouth water? Being hungry helps, but so does seeing images of food you inherently know will taste and smell as delicious as it looks. At this French bakery in North Carolina, you’ll find not only a feast of delectable sweet and savory creations, but also a sensational palette of interesting and eclectic decor. Take a look:
Amélie's French Bakery & Café (with four locations in Charlotte and one in Rock Hill) began 11 years ago in NoDa with a modest French bakery and coffee shop that soon became so popular it inspired more locations throughout the Charlotte area.
From the original location in NoDa, this popular hangout has since expanded to four more locations in the Carolinas and another in Atlanta. The bakery is the heart of the operation, and an ideal spot to hush any cravings you may have for baked goods with a French flair.
The bakery specializes in macarons... in fact, you can create a custom macaron gâteau for yourself or for any upcoming event. (Think weddings that have a special color theme... )
As if a perfect box of macarons isn't enough to light up your life for a few days, check out some of the other baked goods in the case a well. This S’more twice-baked croissant (pictured below) is just begging for a taste. (Is your mouth watering yet?)
But you don't have to get everything tucked neatly into a to-go box at Amélie's. The place has tables and a café (with W-Fi) where you can sit and enjoy a bite to eat, a warm cup of coffee or tea, and gawk at the decor.
That's part of the fun of visiting each location. Except for the signature wallpaper the main rule of thumb in the decor is simply having a fresh-from-the-flea-market look. The shabby chic appearance is one of the most endearing things about Amélie's. From the wallpaper to the whimsical chandeliers and the Eiffel Tower replicas carefully placed throughout, you may forget you're not actually in Paris!
And the food in the café is everything you'll love (or will soon appreciate) about French fare. With an entirely French-inspired menu featuring quiche, soups, salads, and sandwiches, even the pickiest of palates will find something to love.
From North Carolina to Paris in a simple ride in your car. What more could you ask for?
Amélie’s French Bakery & Café has five locations in the Charlotte area: NoDa, Caramel Commons, Uptown, Park Road, and in Rock Hill, SC. Each one is open slightly different hours. You’ll find addresses for each as well as hours of operation on the official website for the bakery here .
While in Charlotte, head to one of these nine incredible flea markets for a day filled with treasure hunting!
