I've been to Pilot Mountain on frigid February days and captured some surreal beauty on camera of icicles adorning trees and rocks. Located not far from Winston, it's a great option for those oddly warm Saturday or Sundays we will surely have.

Winter is a great time to explore the charming town of Wilmington, minus the usual Summer crowd. You can also spend a day to yourself along the coast. We don't mind waking up at 6AM to drive to the beach during the summer...but it's also totally worth it during the winter too!

Conditions might not always allow for taking a drive, but when they do, we are sure you'll agree that the sights are stunning. You'll get to see large ice glaciers hanging off rocks- sometimes right beside the highway- and miles of trees with branches covered in snow. It is such a magical sight to see. The roads you will drive through really are some of the best places to visit in North Carolina in winter.
