She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). With how brutal winters in New York can be, it’s tempting to stay huddled up inside as soon as the snow falls. But there are plenty of places to enjoy outside activities in winter! The Empire State becomes a winter wonderland in the cold months, and to stay curled up inside by the fireplace means you’ll miss out on so much fun. One place that offers plenty of wintertime fun is the Wilton Wildlife Preserve. This 2,400-acre park is a great visit at any time of year, but it’s particularly magical in the winter, and offers plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy even when the temperature is low.
With so much snow-filled beauty, why would you even want to stay indoors?
Wilton Wildlife Preserve regularly hosts fun snow walks. Informative classes for kids have information about how animals survive through the cold winter in New York.
Snowshoe and ski rentals are generally available at the park, weather permitting. Even walking through with spikes or hiking boots is still a treat if there isn't enough snow for snowshoeing.
For a truly unique experience, Wilton Wildlife Preserve even has a few moonlight hikes scheduled each winter. This is a great opportunity to snowshoe through the preserve at nighttime.
Please note that ice skate rentals are not available, so you'll need to bring your own.
The preserve is well-known for their children's activities, like kids' nature seminars and arts and crafts classes. With all the acres to explore, there's lots for adults to enjoy, too!
For more information about Wilton Wildlife Preserve, check out the park’s Facebook or website. There is an upcoming calendar of events and some trail maps.
