If you take a look around New York, you’ll find that some of the best small towns in our state tend to have the most whimsical and head-turning reputations. If you head out to Central New York, you can follow yellow brick roads out in the town of Chittenango, while down in the Hudson Valley you can find an actual UFO sighting capital in Pine Bush. If you’re wondering what sort of other unusual towns you can explore within our state though, then you’re going to be utterly fascinated by the fact that a small town in the Empire State just named Big Foot its official town mascot. Take a look!
Way up north in Washington County where you're not too far from our state's border, the small town of Whitehall has recently made news after announcing that it had officially made Big Foot its town mascot - a vote that was made 4 to 0 by the town hall's representatives.
If you're at all unfamiliar with Whitehall, the town has quite prominent ties with the legendary mythical creature and even has four sasquatch statues in town that you can stop and take a picture with!
Throughout the course of history, many of those who have lived here in Whitehall have claimed to see what they say is Big Foot himself, with stories and sightings of the creature dating all the way back to the 1960s - and yes, even the town's law enforcement has gone on record to say that they've witnessed sasquatch making his way through the area.
With such an extensive history with Big Foot, the town even eventually went on to create things like an annual Sasquatch Festival and also a Bigfoot Half-Marathon for everyone to participate in.
The town's love and true belief for Big Foot doesn't stop there though, if you head on over to North Williams Street you'll even be able to find the Sasquatch Saloon - an entire Big Foot-themed restaurant on the water that's become quite a hit among all.
So, if you're wondering what it's like to check out the Big Foot Sighting Capital of the World, then start planning your trip for the last Saturday of one of these upcoming Septembers so that you can experience Sasquatch Appreciation Day for yourself!
