There are lots of towns around the state of New York that have become increasingly popular to steal away to for the weekend, with destinations like Phoenicia and Lake Placid being a couple of favorites. If you take the time to look upon these more well-known destinations though, you’ll uncover other small-town gems in our state that will equally wow you. Taking you all the way out to our westernmost corner, find out why we’ve been dreaming of taking a weekend getaway in Chautauqua County.
Sitting out along the shores of Chautauqua Lake, the small town of Jamestown is only home to roughly 20,000 New Yorkers.
The lighthouse is also just a skip away from our state's newest hotel, the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel - one of only three harbor hotels that you'll find in New York.
Aside from the gorgeous lakefront views, you can also explore the outdoors and enjoy some peace of mind at places like the Audubon Community Nature Center that'll steal your breath away.
Head to the heart of town and you'll discover famous attractions like the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum that's preserved the comedian's career and life right here in her hometown.
With her presence still ringing true even long after her death, you can also visit like the Lucille Ball Little Theatre where all sorts of exciting and fun performances are always going on.
And if you look just outside of Main Street, you'll discover sweet destinations like Peterson's Candies that has everything your sweet tooth could ever dream of.
For the majority of our residents, it's a bit of a hike to make it all the way out to Jamestown - but we assure you, it's worth any car time you'll have to put in! This charming little town on the water will leave you feeling relaxed and wanting more.
